Introduction: Believing we’ve Failed Blocks Believing in our Success

This week we’re addressing failure, visualization, and deciding ahead of time.


Welcome to week 15. So, this week what we’re going to do is we are going to take the protocol creation one step further and we’re going to be discussing things like planning your meals ahead of time.

Now, the reason that we’re doing this, I don’t think that this is something that you need to do forever. This is just a step that we’re going to be taking for a period of time until we can start to really build self-trust.

So, what this does, deciding your meals 24 hours in advance. What that does is it starts to build the skill of deciding ahead of time and then not having to make decisions in the moment. Cause when we do that, our lower brain takes over and sometimes doesn’t make some great decisions. So, all we have to do is follow the plan.

Now, in deciding ahead of time, we’re also going to be talking about three different topics. One is creating an exception plan. So, for example, if you are approaching the holidays, you may want to go to a party or if you’re going to a summer barbecue, you want to start thinking about what do I expect is going to happen during that time? And that’s actually going to tie into another video that I’m talking about which is visualizing success.

So, exception plans, joy eats, and what that is we really want to be present when we are eating something that we really desire. How often do we do this where we eat something that we love, and then we don’t remember eating it?

So, the idea behind creating joy eats is that you are going to consciously sit down, savor it, and really enjoy it, and pay attention to how it tastes in your mouth. Okay? And then, the final thing is what’s called an upsetting event. And this is something that you’re going to do after the fact.

Now, I shared this worksheet back when we were talking about buffering last month. And so, I’m bringing it back again because it goes along with this week steam, which on the other side of it is talking about failure. And we can’t talk about belief unless we talk about failure because something that keeps us from believing is the evidence that we have from the past that we’ve failed.

And so, what I want to do this week is I want to start talking about failure and talking about it in a way that destigmatizes it, because we’re all afraid of failure. But you know what? We’re not actually afraid of failure, we’re afraid of the inner critic on the other side of not meeting our goal.

And so, in that video, we’re really going to talk about what does it mean to fail? How can we restructure or how can we pivot the way that we think about our experience so that we don’t see it as a failure, but that we see it as a learning opportunity, so that next time we learn, and we do a better from it? Okay?

And then, our final video is going to be about visualizing success. Because I think that a lot of times, we walk into situations expecting one thing. And then, when something completely different happens, we’re blindsided and we’re like, “well, that didn’t work out.”

And so, being able to really think about what are the things that are going to come up and how am I going to deal with those? So that when we are in the moment, we actually have a plan, we’ve actually thought about it. It’s actually going to be really; it’s going to be really helpful for you.
